Instructors: Classes are taught by Rick Laue (Nidan, 2nd degree black belt) who has been practicing Aikido since 1990.
Location: Practices are held at Sensei Rick's home dojo year round (440 square foot mat). The address is 116 Cedar Park, San Marcos, Texas.
Directions are as follows: From I-35, take the Wonder World Drive exit. If you were on I-35 South, turn right onto Wonder World Drive, otherwise turn left onto Wonder World Drive. At the light, turn left onto West Hopkins Street, then turn right at the next light onto Stagecoach Trail. Turn left at the second stop sign onto Rolling Oaks Drive. Turn left at the first stop sign onto Mountain Drive. Finally, turn right onto Cedar Park Drive. Sensei Rick's house is at the end of the culdesac. The dojo is the small building to the right of the house. Please park on the street.
Ages: While Aikido can be excellent for children, at present we do not have children's classes (although we hope to at some point.) Children above age 12 can participate with Sensei's approval.
Beginning Students: Prospective new students should observe a full class and discuss with Sensei Rick prior to starting. Prior practitioners of Aikido may start without the beginners class with Sensei's approval.
Fees:As Aikido of San Marcos is a non-profit dojo, membership is only $20.00 per month and goes towards dojo functions only. Members are also expected to join the United States Aikido Federation (USAF), which is an annual fee of $30.00; this allows students to test for rank through the USAF.
Affiliation: We are affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation, with rank recorded at the Aikido main headquarters in Japan. We routinely participate in seminars, with high ranking instructors from around the country visiting our sister dojos in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio. We are an active part of a national and worldwide Aikido community. We welcome all Aikidoka regardless of affiliations to practice with us.
